Veronica is spending her Christmas holidays with her grandfather in a small Sicilian village, but when a woman disappears and the fear of a notorious killer from ten years ago resurfaces, she begins to suspect the unthinkable: her own grandfather might be the culprit. Not all murderers get caught. Many of them slip through the cracks of justice and simply… grow old. But what if one of these monsters were uncovered by the innocent curiosity of his beloved, unsuspecting granddaughter? Family First is a story about moral inheritance, the thin line between guilt and innocence, the freedoms and limitations of growing up in a small town, and those unbreakable family ties that, for better or worse, bind us together.

“What struck me about Indelebile was its being a way to explore the complexity of Italian provincial life, often overlooked on the big screen. Inspired by films like Don’t Torture a Duckling or I’m Not Scared, I imagined an evocative story alternating freedom and oppression, following Veronica’s emotional arc. Her relationship with her grandfather spawns a narrative that is both authentic and allegorical and never stereotypical. Wide shots and details reveal Veronica’s transformation, along with a polished sound design and a spot-on cast that give rise to a powerful and compelling realism.” (Simone Valentini)

Simone Valentini (Rome, 1992), a film aficionado since he was a kid, directed his first short film, Dolor, Doloris, Dolore, in 2014. In 2020, he directed the documentary series Allevi in the Jungle, about the musician Giovanni Allevi. The following year, he worked on another documentary series, Storie di Risorgimento Digitale. This year, he made the documentary Giovanni Allevi – Back To Live. Indelebile marks Valentini’s feature directorial debut. Currently, he’s at work on his second feature, «Per un po’», based on the novel of the same name by Niccolò Agliardi.
