The first event in the “Art of Making Podcasts” series…and one docuseries
The subject being examined during this first talk is E poi il silenzio – Il disastro di Rigopiano, the new film by Pablo Trincia, co-written with Debora Campanella, and released in the form of a podcast as well as a documentary series, thanks to the joint efforts of Chora Media, Sky Italia, and Sky TG24. In both formats, differing in length and selection of content, there is a reconstruction of the tragic events that took place on January 18, 2017, which led to 29 hotel guests at a chalet in Abruzzo losing their lives in the wake of an avalanche.
It’s a retelling that goes beyond a bare account of the disaster, even though facts, dates, records, and first-hand reports are essential in order to understand the stories of individuals who found themselves sharing the same tragic fate. The voices of Trincia, the survivors, the victims’ relatives and friends, and those who might have been able to ward off the disaster at Rigopiano, had they been heard, unite the singular and the plural, life and death, chance and causality: the carefree spirit of those enjoying a short vacation and the criminal negligence of those who had no plans for such an event, failed to act during or afterwards, and proved to be unable of feeling even a shred of empathy with people who had lost everything.
Pablo Trincia is a multi-award-winning writer and podcaster who has spent the last twenty years traveling around Italy and the world telling stories and making reports on issues linked to conflicts and injustices. In 2017, his first podcast series, Veleno, for Repubblica.it, became a huge cultural phenomenon. For Audible, Trincia made the podcasts Buio and Le guerre di Anna. In 2022, his Spotify Original series, Il Dito di Dio – voci dalla Concordia, shot to the Top 15 on the global podcast charts. His Dove nessuno guarda – Il caso Elisa Claps, produced by Sky Italia, Sky TG24 and made by Chora Media, is the most popular podcast in Italy on Spotify in 2023. Before E poi il silenzio – Il disastro di Rigopiano, also produced by Sky Italia, Sky TG24, and made by Chora Media, Trincia wrote and directed Sangue Loro – Il ragazzo mandato a uccidere.
Debora Campanella is a writer and story producer for podcasts. She has taken part in the making of some of the most important Italian audio series, like Veleno and Il dito di Dio – voci dalla Concordia. She is also the co-writer of Buio and Le guerre di Anna and the two seasons of Proprio a me. Her first podcast as host and author is Dalla parte sbagliata.
After receiving a law degree, Omar Schillaci got his first assignments as a journalist with Radio Popolare.
