The program on Monday gets underway in the spirit of Noir’s poster this year: with an event built around the deep web. It continues with a masterclass on Graham Greene and John le Carré, while authors Alex Michaelides and Maurizio de Giovanni take the stage for our Conversation series. On the big screen, Monday’s two premieres are Golden Leopard winner Vengeance is Mine, All Others Pay Cash, and the French-made, Korean-set Vanishing.
The spirit of Noir in Festival’s 2021 poster informs Noir’s program for Monday, December 13th. Just like the 3.0 detective in the poster designed by Marco Galli, who probes the chiaroscuro of worlds real and virtual, the panel discussion moderated by Andrea Purgatori delves into the obscure networks operating in the deep web (at11.30 am, IULM 6 – Sala dei 146). For this journey into the dark side of the Internet, Purgatori will be joined by General Umberto Rapetto (Italy’s expert on economic and high-tech crimes) and Alessandro Curioni (who teaches Internet security at Milan’s Cattolica University).
Monday’s talks next take a literary turn courtesy of two of crime fiction’s heavyweights, Alex Michaelides, with his bestseller The Maidens, published by Einaudi (at 5 pm, Teatro Filodrammatici); and Maurizio de Giovanni, treating audiences to a special reading of Angeli per i Bastardi di Pizzofalcone (Einaudi), including musical interludes performed by Marco Zurzolo (at 6:30 pm, Teatro Filodrammatici). Over at our IULM venue, Adrian Wootton conducts a masterclass on Graham Greene and John le Carré (at 3 pm, IULM 6 – Sala dei 146), in a one-on-one with Richard Greene, author of Russian Roulette: the Life and Times of Graham Greene.
As for our international film competition, Monday’s premieres feature the winning film at Locarno this year, Vengeance Is Mine, All Others Pay Cash by Edwin (at 6:30 pm, Notorious Cinemas Gloria), followed by Vanishing by Denis Dercourt, a thriller filmed in Korea that stars Olga Kurylenko as a world-renowned forensic expert brought in to investigate a series of brutal murders (at 9:30 pm, Notorious Cinemas Gloria).
Rounding out the program on Monday: the screening of one of the six Italian films vying for the Caligari Prize, State a casa by Roan Johnson (at 5:30 pm, IULM 6 – Sala dei 146).
