Police officer Johanna Strand returns to her hometown, Hammarvik, for the funeral of her mother. Her initial plan is to stay just a few days, but that all changes when the body of a young woman is found in the trunk of a car at the bottom of the sea. Johanna decides to investigate, little knowing that her search for the killer will entangle her in a cold case from eighteen years earlier, and a past she thought was behind her. Making things worse, Danne, her first boyfriend, appears, now married to her erstwhile best friend, Pernilla.

Camilla Läckberg, who also has a cameo in this new series which marks her debut as a television writer, has sold twenty-four million copies of her books in sixty countries, translated into forty languages. That makes her the sixth-most read author in Europe, and has already inspired another TV program, The Fjällbacka Murders: In the Eye of the Beholder, aired as Omicidi tra i fiordi – I gialli di Camilla Läckberg, on Italy’s LaF channel. Läckberg is also a successful entrepreneur and is one of the women founders of Invest in Her, a company that invests in women’s businesses and is on the front line in attempts to end the gender pay gap.
