Indigo is a historical, knightly, fantasy, gothic novel that interweaves its enigma with psychology and poetry. Giobert (real name Giovanni Antonio di Gioberti), a tall and virile man of 65 with the air of a knight or a medieval king, comes from Roero, in the Piedmont region. He lives alone behind the high wars of a castle, where he cultivates Isatis Tinctoria, a flower used by botanists and dyers, and is writing a treatise on indigo. Hounded by the devious Blue Knight to create other shades of blue, Giobert takes part in and wins competitions dedicated to the color. But every competition leaves a wake of deaths and Giobert becomes the prime suspect. Under the influence of morphine to mitigate the pain from a horseback riding injury, nightmares, dreams and obsessions begin to take hold of Giobert’s mind.
