The international film jury, comprising American writer Lawrence Block (president), French publisher François Guerif, Italian actors Carolina Crescentini, Vinicio Marchioni and director Antonello Grimaldi, assigned their prizes to the following films:
CINEMA VALLE D’AOSTA AWARD - BLACK LION FOR BEST FILM Hodejegerne - Headhunters by Morten Tyldum (Norway/Denmark/Germany) We were delighted with every aspect of Headhunters, which we found to be engaging, funny, suspenseful, and satisfying throughout. We felt it fit the category perfectly, and it is our pleasure to award it the prize as Best Film. The performance of Aksel Hennie especially aroused our admiration, and enhanced the film greatly.
BEST PERFORMANCE AWARD Jean-Pierre Darroussin in De Bon Matin - Early One Morning by Jean-Marc Moutout (France/Belgium) For Best Performance, we are pleased to recognize the great achievement of Jean-Pierre Darroussin in De Bon Matin. The film was very much the story of a character under stress, and we felt he showed great ability in creating a complex character, and in dramatizing with great intensity the problem of an individual trapped in a disintegrating social system.
SPECIAL JURY PRIZE Hashoter – Policeman by Nadav Lapid (Israel) It is our pleasure to award a special prize to Policeman. We felt the filmmaker displayed great courage in his unsparing portrayal of very diverse aspects of the society the film reflects.
The Jury of Young European Critics, composed of Miriam Begliuomini, Julien Englebert, Astrid Jansen, Roberto Oggiano, Sabrina Petijacques, Marie Pynthe, Giulia Rigoni, Maxence Robert, presents the DOCNOIR AWARD FOR BEST DOCUMENTARY to: Calvet by Dominic Allan (UK) We have been touched by Jean-Marc Calvet, the strength of this man and his sincerity. Also by the discretion of the director Dominic Allan who, with his camera, received carefully the testimony of a man and his incredible story. Thanks to this documentary the viewer is able to feel intimately.
PEOPLE’S CHOICE AWARD FOXCRIME: Don’t be afraid of the dark by Troy Nixey (USA, Australia, Mexico)
