The end of the world is spreading. As the Noir in Festival gets ready to kick off an edition dedicated to the apocalypse, the European Film Awards (EFA) have chosen as this year's Best Film, Lars Von Trier's Melancholia, in which an asteroid destroys Earth.
Before its screening on Thursday, December 8 at 10 pm at Courmayeur's Palanoir, We Need to Talk About Kevin, by British director Lynne Ramsay, is already being talked about. The film's female lead, Tilda Swinton, yesterday picked up the Best Actress nod at the EFA.
Last but certainly not least, Stephen Frears received a Lifetime Achievement Award from an EFA commission presided over by Wim Wenders, for 'his outstanding and dedicated body of work.' The Noir in Festival also pays homage to Frears this year, with the screenings of Fail Safe and Gumshoe, respectively on December 7 and 8; an award (Friday, December 9); and a Q&A with the public (Saturday, December 10).
