Michael Connelly First Clue to Noir's 20th Anniversary Edition

 28/09/2010
After a summer festivities that included guests and screenings at the Jardin de l'Ange, the Courmayeur Noir in Festival prepares to celebrate its 20th anniversary from December 7-13.
It wouldn’t be a noir festival if all the mystery of its upcoming edition were revealed, but artistic directors Giorgio Gosetti and Marina Fabbri have started dropping a few clues. “It will be a unique year in all respects,” they say, “with a program that will offer a stand-out event daily.”
The festival’s “Nobel” for mystery literature, the Raymond Chandler Award, will go to one of the undisputed masters of the bestseller, American writer Michael Connelly. For the occasion, Clint Eastwood’s film Blood Work, based on Connelly’s character Terry McCaleb, will also be screened.
The festival will offer the uncut version of Olivier Assayas’ TV movie Carlos, on the most controversial international terrorist of the 1970s, lich Ramírez Sánchez.
The Mini Noir program features a tribute to Coraline and Stardust author Neil Gaiman, who has already been deemed the “Lewis Carroll of the 20th century.” Together with Carlo Lucarelli, the festival is preparing the special event Agosto ’80, on the 1980 terrorist bombing in the Bologna train station and with Il Sette of Corriere della Sera will kick off the cycle “Racconti del caminetto,” dedicated to some of the greatest real-life cases pulled straight from the headlines.
Last, but certainly not least, there will also be a photography exhibit by Francesco Galli, entitled Noir di casa nostra, a never-before-seen gallery of portraits of the greatest Italian authors of the genre in their usual work places and for which the festival set up an original collaboration with Radio2 and the program Tutti i Colori del Giallo.
As we anticipate other clues, we must wait for December 7 to come around, when Courmayeur plummets the noir depths for its 20th edition. As Gosetti and Fabbri point out: “Our event inaugurates the area’s winter activities and truly belongs to everyone. Its blend of celebration and culture goes perfectly with the first weekend of ski season.'
