The
Japanese director Satoshi Kon, master of animation and author of Perfect
Blue (1997), Millennium Actress (2001), Tokyo Godfathers (2003)
presented at Courmayeur in 2004, and Paprika (2006) passed away on August 24 at the age of only 47 years for pancreatic cancer. At the time of his death the director was working at the production of his fifth film, The Dream Machine. Tokyo
Godfathers, freely inspired by John Ford's Three Godfathers (1948) is considered by the 'New York Times' one of the best films of
2004, and was the first animated film ever presented in competition at our festival. Together with the many admirers around the world of the genius of this author we mourn his untimely death. |
