Zampaglione: Director, Musician and Horror Fan

 12/12/2009
After presenting his second feature film Shadow in the afternoon, in the evening local star Federico Zampaglione offered festival audiences a concert with his new group, The Alvarius, who made their first appearance in Italy and created the film’s soundtrack.

Shadow is a dark, scary and uncompromising film, produced by Massimo Ferrero. “I’d like to dedicate it to all those fans who are disappointed with the disappearance of horror cinema, and wish there were more producers making these kinds of films,” said the musician-director. “Following Nero Bifamiliare, which was a dark film that also had some comic moments, I wanted to try my hand at something closer to me. The directors I grew up with and love are Dario Argento, Lucio Fulci and Mario Bava. I felt the need to make a horror film and I developed the idea with my father, who’s also a huge fan of the genre.”

The psychedelic experimental sounds of The Alvarius are reminiscent of the progressive bands of the early 70s. “The [band] was created specifically for the film and is made up of my brother Francesco and Andrea Mossanese, who wanted to try playing deep, experimental sounds. More than anything, I just supervised,” said Zampaglione.

Shadow has already been picked up in nine territories, including Germany, the UK, Austria, Switzerland and Luxemburg. It will be released in Italy in spring 2010.
