  Frozen River

 07/12/2007
Marie Frenay
“One of the most exciting thrillers I’ve seen this year!” is what Quentin Tarantino said after seeing Frozen River, and his praise is due above all to the performances of the lead actresses. Melissa Leo is simply fantastic in the role of Ray Eddy, a mother of two disillusioned with life. She will cross paths with Lila Littlewolf (Misty Upham), a young Mohawk woman. Overcome with desperate financial problems, Melissa ends up working with Lila, who smuggles illegal immigrants into the United States. Together, they cross the frozen river of the title several times, which lies at the border between Québec and the state of New York and during their runs will develop a bond. In the middle of a white desert, they unwittingly become heroines of a modern western.
