The 18th edition of Courmayeur Noir in festival scheduled on Dec. 4-10, 2008

 04/04/2008
As every year, the 18th edition of the festival – to be held in Courmayeur from December 4-10, 2008 – will present 12 competition films selected from among the best new works in the genre of the year underway. A prestigious jury will choose the best of the selection and present them with the Mystery Award - Premio Valle d'Aosta Cinema, the prize for Best Performance and a Jury Special Mention. In addition, there is an Audience Award offered by Fox Crime.

The festival also features a section of retrospectives and tributes to the great personalities of international noir that explore the genre’s history. MINI Noir section and a new section for adolescents, entitled NON APRITE QUELLE PORTE (“DON’T OPEN THAT DOOR”) also offer a sidebar specifically devoted to generations of younger viewers.

For literature, the festival promotes encounters with the best mystery writers from throughout the world and each year presents the prestigious Raymond Chandler Award, a career prize to a great international maestro; while the Giorgio Scerbanenco-La Stampa Award crowns the best Italian noir novel published that year. Conferences and seminars examine artistic developments in the genre and on their close ties with current events.

Events, exhibits and publications further enrich the rendezvous with the Courmayeur Noir in Festival for fans and industry professionals alike.

Promoted by the Ministry of Culture, the Valle d'Aosta Region and the City of Courmayeur, in 2007 the festival was listed by Variety among the 50 festival worldwide (and five in Italy) “not to be missed.”
