The winter of 1974. Marlene has married Herr Wegener, the most feared man in the South Tyrol, as her ticket out of poverty. Now, though, something has changed. She leaves her husband after stealing one of his treasures of inestimable value, and not just monetary. When her car runs off the road, the young woman is saved by a farmer who lives in a remote mountain cabin. Meanwhile, an angry Herr Wegener has given orders to search for his wife, whose exploits have raised the hackles of a powerful criminal organization, the Consortium.
Luca D’Andrea (Bolzano, 1979) is a contributor to Italy’s major daily newspapers. He made his debut as a novelist in 2009 with Wunderkind, a fantasy trilogy with dark undertones, using the pen name G. L. D’Andrea. His first thriller, The Mountain, made a splash at the 2016 London Book Fair and was sold in over thirty countries before its publication in Italy by Einaudi/Stile Libero. Cattleya has a TV series in the works based on the novel.
