Generazione Rosarno
Melampo Editore

It’s the real frontier of the struggle against the different mafias, where all the clichés fall apart. If you’re born into a family that belongs to the ‘ndrangheta, can you really reject violence and choose another direction? Can you love your father in prison and still break away, imagining an alternative future for yourself, one of freedom and true respect? Generazione Rosarno takes readers on a marvelous, hope-filled journey to the area of Calabria that the most powerful clans have always claimed their own domain, and shows us a high school in which privileges and prejudices old and new have been defeated. No children of the local mobsters to be found here, no children of witnesses or those collaborating with justice: a thousand teenagers are all equal when the first bell rings, without struggling under the weight of their personal stories. A novel lightness of being and kindness might just breed a new culture.

Born in Palermo, Serena Uccello has lived and worked in Milan since 2000. A reporter for Il Sole 24 Ore, she coordinates its section devoted to employment issues. She also reports on economic crimes and organized crime, contributing to Il Giornale di Sicilia, La Gazzetta di Mantova, the weekly Diario and the Sicilian headquarters of RAI. She co-wrote the books L’isola civile. Le aziende siciliane contro la mafia (2009), with Nino Amadore, and Nostro Onore. Una donna magistrato contro la mafia (2014), with Marzia Sabella, both published by Einaudi.
