La notte di Roma

On the heels of the two-fold success of Suburra - the 2013 novel is now a film - the "noir duo" is back at the festival with the novel La notte di Roma, the sequel to the squalid power struggles between criminals and politicians in Italy’s capital. In this new chapter of the dark saga set in a Rome poised to stage the Jubilee, there are a few hopeful notes: new characters revive long-stifled passions and fight back against the lethal old ways that have lost their mojo. Both Bonini and De Cataldo are Noir habitués. The latter has won multiple awards (the 2003 Scerbanenco Award, for Romanzo Criminale, and the 2007 Super Scerbanenco), while the former has been a frequent festival guest with his impressive investigations and biographies of criminals such as Renato Vallanzasca (Il fiore del male, 2009). Taking their cue from their latest book, the two writers will discuss the collusion between organized crime and politics in Italy over the last forty years.
