Jobless, José is sent by a temp agency to work as an extra for the recording of a special New Year’s Eve program, in the middle of August. Hundreds of people like him have been shut away indoors day and night for a week and a half while they pretend to laugh, stupidly celebrating the false arrival of the New Year. While Alphonso, a big-name singer, will do anything to snag the top audience share, Adanne, his adversary, is trolled by fans seeking to blackmail her. What no-one suspects is that Alphonso’s life is in danger. Is there space for love amid the uncontrollable chaos?
"A whirlwind of rapid dialogues, in sequences that seem like frantically fast-paced musical numbers sure to overwhelm the audience. The camera will not stay still, moving around just like another character, trying to capture that sensation of an absurd merry-go-round. A theme park inhabited by cruel monsters and clowns. A huge Dionysian ritual in which the viewers will find that they themselves are part of the pantomime. Comedy is the acid that dissolves that pain imposed on us by the prevailing logic. This movie will be a mirror that warps reality, altering it and thus making it recognizable." [Álex de la Iglesia]

Álex de la Iglesia made his debut in the film industry as an art director on the short film Mamá (1988), directed by Pablo Berger, and some time later on Enrique Urbizu’s feature filmTodo por la pasta (1991). His first feature-length film, Acción mutante (1993) won two awards at the Fantasia Film Festival in Montreal and three Goya awards. His next feature film, The Day of the Beast (1995) would earn him six Goya awards, including Best Director. In 2010 he released The Last Circus, honored with the award for Best Screenplay and the Silver Lion for Best Director at the Venice Film Festival. In 2013 he racked up eight Goyas for the comedy Witching and Bitching. He has recently published his latest novel,Recuérdame que te odie.
