Against a backdrop of mystery and deceit, a highly skilled and troubled impersonator is hired by the Italian Secret Service to make a few phone calls in the voice of a governmental minister who has died of a heart attack. The first successful call is followed by other, increasingly compromising and dangerous calls, building up to a tragic and inevitable conclusion.

"I wanted to tell a story in which the action, and thriller and noir elements still left room for psychological examination of the character. [...] Impersonating others’ voices on the telephone, at a moment when wiretapping is at the center of so many investigations and so much media interest, seemed pretty topical, as did the tragic life of an impersonator who can become other people but can no longer find himself." [Augusto Zucchi]

Augusto Zucchi graduated in Acting in 1968 from the School of the Genoa Reportory Theatre with Luigi Squarzina, and in 1971 in Directing from the Silvio D’Amico National Academy of Dramatic Arts. He has directed and appeared in numerous classical and contemporary plays with cooperatives, companies and rep theatres, and has also written diverse plays. With Italo Moscati he co-founded a socially engaged theatre company. From 1979 to 1981, he and Alessandro Fersen co-directed the Bolzano Repertory Theatre. In 1982 he won the IDI Best Director Award for the play Terroristi. He also writes and acts in cinema and television productions. He co-wrote the screenplay for Caro Gorbaciov with Carlo Lizzani.
