A man travels in a station wagon, looking for something, perhaps the loot from a forgotten robbery. A dark-skinned woman is abandoned then chased by a small-time gangster, from whom she may have stolen something big. Why does Donato decide to help Norah, and take along her with him on his mysterious trip? Why doesn’t Norah leave Donato? Why does she stay with him to very end, to find out what’s truly behind his search? A chance encounter between two desperate souls backed into a corner. Against the backdrop of a barely recognizable Italian province. A place-less landscape forever buried in snow.

"I thought of a man searching for something, who holds the key to a secret. And of a woman who is very different from him, but who’s also searching for hope. Of the encounter between two people whose lives are both hanging in the balance, threatened by that merry-go-round of emotions, violence and lies that is always present when money’s involved. A noir of the soul. But a noir in white. Because it’s not set but literally dropped into a constantly snow-filled landscape. A landscape that is not a setting but is the story’s third protagonist. Where I could undo the knots of a killer-less thriller. But which, entwined among the characters’ psychologies, could speak of all our consciences." [Stefano Incerti]

After working for a number of years as an AD for, among other directors, Mario Martone, Pappi Corsicato and Francesco Calogero, Stefano Incerti made his directorial debut 1995 with Il verificatore, which won the Kodak Prize for Best Debut Film at the Venice Film Festival. After screening and picking up awards at diverse international festivals, the following year it also the David di Donatello, Nastro d’Argento and Grolla d’oro for Best Debut Film. He followed it up with "Il diavolo nella bottiglia" (an episode of the omnibus film The Vesuvians, 1997), Prima del tramonto (in Competition at the 1999 Locarno Film Festival), La vita come viene (2002) and the documentary Stessa rabbia, stessa primavera (2003), on Marco Bellocchio’s film Good Morning, Night. In 2007 he presented L'uomo di vetro at Taormina and in 2009 directed The Hush. His 2010 film Gorbaciòf played out of competition at Venice and as a Special Presentation at Toronto.
