Inspired by real life events, the film looks at the genesis of the random 2002 sniper killings that terrorized the Washington D.C. area and left over 20 people dead. The story is told from the perspective of the two snipers: 17-year-old Lee Boyd Malvo and John Allen Muhammad. The fatherless Malvo, distraught over his mother’s absence, latched on to Muhammad as a father figure, while the latter, a US citizen who was under a restraining order to stay away from his ex-wife and children, found a disciple-son to indoctrinate on a mad mission. After meeting on the island of Antigua, where Malvo was living, John lured the boy back to the United States to begin a terrifying rampage.

"I wanted to make a film about how this father trained this kid to be a killer, to prepare for a mission. But I wanted it to be something pure and abstract. [...] It’s a movie about their relationship. We don’t need to see a disturbing bloodbath - we already know that part of the story. The part we don’t know is the part about John and Lee. That’s what I wanted to explore." [Alexandre Moors]

Growing up in the suburbs of Paris, Alexandre Moors was an active member of the graffiti scene while studying fine art and design at the renowned Arts Décoratifs College (ENSAD). He moved to New York in 1998 and began working as a creative director for several pioneer Internet TV companies and motion graphic studios. Over the years, Moors directed several award-winning short films and music videos for Jennifer Lopez, Miguel, Talib Kweli and The Crystal Method, among many others. With Kanye West he co-directed the experimental film Cruel Summer, which stars West and Kid Cudi and premiered at Cannes in 2012. Blue Caprice is his feature debut.
